October Reflection
After a summer of preparing and generating insights for the Future Thinking report and getting back into the swing of things in terms of university work, I feel nervous and excited for my final year at NTU. I managed to gain a temporary job position at Lush in Nottingham which is exciting, however I’m apprehensive of balancing university work and part-time work – yet I’m up for the challenge! The interview process was challenging as it was a group one which I’ve never done before, however it was interesting to see how others rose to the challenge and to see like-minded people in same environment.
Some things that I worked on over the summer were, gaining confidence in myself, trying new things out of my comfort zone and attempting to become a better cook. I want to take these things and use them over my time in third year.
In terms of my own skills, I believe that I am a hard-working person that completes tasks on time, I also thrive under time pressure and can also apply myself to team tasks as well as individual. I am a friendly and funny person who has empathy for others.
For a successful third year I want to gain a 2:1 BA degree, I am unsure if I want to take a gap year after I graduate or go straight into employment, as I did not take one after I finished school and instead came straight to university. I am apprehensive of the job situation as the pandemic has slightly messed up the market, however I am hopeful that as time goes on more jobs become available.
Over the next year I need to really focus and plan my time wisely, as well as utilise all the help and opportunities that are available to me – and use the library! I want to improve my Adobe InDesign skills to make my work visually pleasing at this is the part I struggle with. I also massively struggle with self-doubt and comparing myself to others which I realise hinders my personal development.
Quote of the month – “In today’s world its really easy to stay busy. Sometimes its hard to do nothing. And sometimes doing nothing is what you need to do.”
